Denver - Day 4
Entry 5 of 11 | show all | print this entry |
Not quite such an early start today, although I still had to start the day with a meeting. At least this time I managed to have breakfast in my hotel before heading out, so I was fed and prepared for this meeting. After my meeting had finished I went and got some Krispy Kreme doughnuts and fruit juice so the three of us at the stand had something to eat. We were pleased to discover it was a little busier in the hall, but it still wasn't anything major. I had another meeting at lunchtime (I really must schedule things better) so on this occasion I brought back Jamba Juice to the hall on my return. I moved on from the Pomegranate Paradise to a Mega Mango - I hope some day this chain makes the UK because I would so keep them in business!! The afternoon ambled along pleasantly enough, although there were no particularly exciting events to report. I socialised a bit with some other exhibitors, but really it was quite uneventful! Sadly, these days where the conference is the main event, the only other thing worth writing about is food!!!! And so.......when the exhibition closed at 5pm (oddly, by dimming the lights so we all walked into things) we all headed back to our respective hotels. I arranged to meet my colleague at her hotel at 7pm and we'd decide where to eat then. In the couple of hours that I had, I had a wander around and checked my emails - at some point I had to catch up with the work that was slowly building up in my inbox. Don't people realise I am away??!!! Anyway, I met up with my colleague at 7pm and we wandered up the 16th St Mall. As every second building is an eatery of some sort we thought we were bound to find something we could both tolerate (her being a vegetarian and me with my food oddities!). We definitely decided against the 'Hamburgers and Frozen Custard' establishment - I mean, really, what an unpleasant combination. In the end we were lured into the Hard Rock Café by the promise of live music all night. It was quite busy in there, but with a quick flash of my HRC card we got moved right to the front of the queue and had a table by the stage. The live music in there was great. The warm up act was a young guy on guitar singing some of his own stuff. It was a soulful rock and he was really very talented. He was also a complete contrast to the main event, which was a band that on the outside looked like your worst family Christmas karaoke nightmare, but who were actually fantastic. They performed more country-rock but they brought the place down and kept going for over 2 hours. It was real good and we had a great time listening to them and enjoying the food and drink (although our waiter seemed most disturbed that we didn't want any alcohol). I was also pleased to find this HRC housed an outfit and guitar of Richie Sambora's - those who know me well will appreciate this!!!! Quite a lot of good stuff in this one, actually. We headed on back to our hotels at around 11pm, just in time for emails and then bed.
