Today we chose not to set an alarm and just woke up when we wanted.  As it was, we still woke up fairly early and so I had a shower and then we headed out for some breakfast.  We stopped in a waterfront café and had cereals and toast - a pleasant start to the day.  We wandered back to our motel, packed and then headed out around 11am for the journey round to Los Angeles.

The highway (1 & 101) was scenic and we hugged the coastline as we drove.  We stopped occasionally for photos and a bit of shopping at an Outlet Mall near Pismo Beach, but there were no major stops until we arrived in the Santa Monica region.  We had cut through the Santa Monica Mountains to reach the coastal road and some of the mansions/ranches we saw were huge.  We drove along until we found a parking spot at Malibu Beach.  We kicked off our sandals and headed straight for the sea.  The sand was perfectly soft and a pale colour, and the sea was nicely cold.  We hung around here about 45 minutes before I needed to change my soaked jeans and then we headed on down to Los Angeles.

Hitting LA was worse than even I had imagined.  The traffic was nearly stationary almost the whole 30 odd miles through LA and down to Anaheim.  Sigh.  Needless to say, by the time we had arrived we had completely missed out dinner reservation at Beso (we were meant to be picking up friend in Anaheim and heading back up to Hollywood).  We went to pick up Chloe at 8:45pm and ended up going to dinner at The Outback Steakhouse.  I had steak and fries - very nice.  By the time we got back and I had used the internet, it was gone 1am.  Definitely time for bed!
