mood: full (of nutella crepes)
I am in Mykonos town sitting in an internet cafe, its very hot outside and i decided that i needed a break from the beach! Its funny because there are 3 guys in here playing counterstrike or some shooting game - how familiar - it feels like i am back home!!! Donna would know what im talking about haha.
Last night a groupload of Americans came into my part of the campsite, they were so loud that i didnt get much sleep. I think they are on break from college - they must be under 21 because i think they headed off to one of the bars on the beach and abused their right to drink because i could hear them thismorning talking to one of the guys - it seems he somehow got very drunk (and soaking wet somehow) and ended up being taken by the police to the hospital and got put onto a drip for half the night, until he snuck out early this morning and made his way back to the campsite
I decided that i was sick of Paradise beach today and so after breakfast - actually speaking of, each morning we get breaky for free, its always the same, 2 pieces of bread, a croissant and some butter and jam + orange juice and tea or coffee. Its okay for something thats free, usually breaky sets you back here about 6euros for something basic so to have breaky and accom for 10 euros is great!!! although im beginning to get sick of all the bread, thats all i seem to eat. anyway, as i was saying, i caught the bus into town to find out what would be a nice little area to head for (as the island is quite big) and i went into a little travel agency and they suggested a beach called Psarou, which was meant to be very cosmopolitan - so i caught a bus down to check it out. Buses here are very regular, generally every 1/2 hour, and cost 1.40euro each way. the drivers are amazing, the roads are so narrow and lined with stone fences, i am so suprised that they do not hit anything (cars, people) as everyone that drives here is crazy!!! most people who are going to hire vehicles opt for mopeds or 4wheel motorbikes as they are cheap and easy. there are also small cars available, but they are harder to park (especially in town) and its a nightmare to try and navigate the roads here
the bus to Psarou took around 10 mins, and i went for a short walk before heading down to the beach. this area is mostly hotels and restaurants. I found an empty patch on the beach and lay out my new beach towel - i had so far been using the same towel for the beach and showering, i think its good to keep it separate! today was very warm, so i had a swim to cool off (the water here around the islands is freezing considering the weather, and very salty compared to back home) and then relaxed for a while and watched all the people. pretty much all the restaurants on the beaches have loungers out in front of their shops, and so generally most of the beach is taken up by loungers and umbrellas. you can have a lounger for a whole day for around 4 euro, same for an umbrella. we get them cheaper back at Paradise because of the tour, so i didnt hire one this time, i just found a patch of sand which is free!!!
I caught the bus back to town to look for somewhere with air con to cool down and to jump on the net as it was getting too hot to sit outside. The streets here are only accessable by foot, as they are winding and quite narrow. I turned down one of the smaller side streets and found a really lovely little cafe which served icecream, crepes and sweets. I spent quite a while in there, as they had a cute little window seat with benches and cushions, so i had some sorbet and wrote in my diary, and had a little chat with the owner, who is originally from Athens but brought the shop with his wife who is from Switzerland, and now ship in swiss icecream and other yummy goodies. they were very friendly and inviting, i must have been in there for well over an hour, i also ended up getting an nutella crepe which was delicious. im gunna get so fat! i think thats going to be my dinner for tonight hahahaha. yum.
Because the group of girls i had been hanging out with left yesterday, i got a little bit homesick last night as i had the room to myself, the new group that i join up with arrives tomorrow, so i have been hanging out with myself the past 24 hours
stop laughing at me.
anyway, i look forward to getting to put my photos up so everyone can see! its getting frustrating trying to find somewhere to do it, especially because at the moment i dont have my cable with me. but i am trying, i promise!!!
tomorrow i think the plan is pretty much to stick around in Paradise, so that i can meet the new tour leader. they will probably do the same thing that we did the first night; explore the island and then have dinner and some drinks in town, so i will meet them in there and try to make some new friends!

the bay
. from what i could tell he could get in a lot of trouble!!! not from just the cops but his family/school as well. silly drunk americans.I decided that i was sick of Paradise beach today and so after breakfast - actually speaking of, each morning we get breaky for free, its always the same, 2 pieces of bread, a croissant and some butter and jam + orange juice and tea or coffee. Windmills
! I am still trying to adjust to driving on the other side of the road haha. You see alot of people with bandages on their hands and legs, the bikes are very dangerous and i think there are alot of accidents. if i had the courage to drive around here i would hire one but these people are crazy and at the moment i am happy to sit safely on the bus - i know that at least i wont come off second best! Oh yeah, and petrol here is about 1.40euro per litre, so over $2 aussie! madness.the bus to Psarou took around 10 mins, and i went for a short walk before heading down to the beach. this area is mostly hotels and restaurants.
Side street
plus i wasnt planning on staying that long so it is hardly worth it. i found the beach here was a lot dirtier than where i am staying, the sand is much finer, but it is full of ciggarete butts and the water has rubbish and seaweed in it. Paradise litterally has no rubbish, the sand is more like tiny pebbles which means that it doesnt stick to you as badly, and the ocean floor is almost pure sand! there are also little fish that swim around your feet, there werent many fish here. After my laze on the beach i went into one of the self serve cafes and bought a greek yogurt and cooled down on their patio area looking over the water.I caught the bus back to town to look for somewhere with air con to cool down and to jump on the net as it was getting too hot to sit outside. The streets here are only accessable by foot, as they are winding and quite narrow. Blue and white
. there was some other girls that are staying here the same ammount of time as me, but they all came together and are in a different part of the camp, they tend to stick to themselves so i havent seen them around much. its been okay, but its hard to meet people when you are in a room by yourself. last night i pumped up my ipod though and re-packed my pack, then watched anchorman and after that i felt alright. and i also have a great cure for homesickness - i lick my tube of vegemite. hahaha. well i dont have any bread or anything to put it on, so what other choice do i have???stop laughing at me.
anyway, i look forward to getting to put my photos up so everyone can see! its getting frustrating trying to find somewhere to do it, especially because at the moment i dont have my cable with me. but i am trying, i promise!!!

Advice from Mum
Hi Kate, this is just what you want to hear!!!(Not) but I'm gonna say it anyway. You need to eat some good food. There I've said it, and do I feel better? Not really but you can't live on the cheapest stuff all the time and keep up your energy. Now does that make you more homesick to have me nagging you? Hope you find some friends in the new group. luv Mumxox

Phone Home KW
Hi beautiful, Thanks for the call - it was just what your old man needed, to hear your voice. I know it's only been a bit over a week but not being abused, ignored yell at or WHAT EVER, just didn't seem normal.
So you like the bread and pastries. You should try the salads over there. Apparently the Greek salads in Greece are the best, funny about that.
Hope you make some long term friend that you can travel with for a bit more than a couple of days. I guess that you are starting to get used to the heat by now. Be careful not to wear out to many pairs of thongs.
Love you heap, have a great time. Love very jealous Dad xxooxx
