For those who regularly check out all of our travel pod, we're sure you'll be shocked at how close this entry has come out, since the most recent one. But there is something that we have done in the last few weeks, which could not wait any longer to tell!! As we said in our last entry, we arrived well in Melbourne. It didn't quite warm up to the temperature that we have been accustomed to! But it was a bit of relief to get out of the humidity, before getting to Asia. Although?!... Bring back the humidity any day, if Lou would only cease the incessant complaining, about the cold. Even though it was t-shirt weather!!
Anyway, back to the main point of this particular entry and the great news we have got!! No, we are not pregnant....!!!!! Phew!... The next best thing though... We took a 3hr tour to Ramsay Street - Neighbours- to anyone living in a cave for the last 20 years
At first, we were going to make our own way there, by way of Hire car. The price was more or less the same for a tour, but doing it on our own, wouldn't allow us to hold the Ramsay street sign, for the benefit of our token photos!! So the decision was made... A tour it was to be..
Having got up bright and early, we were picked up in a mini bus, which was plastered with 'Official Neighbours Tour'. So there was no doubting where we sad Brits were heading to that day. Dan felt ashamed whilst making the 30 minute journey from the city, as people driving past, looked at us in some pity. Apparently visiting the street is a Mecca for all fans (and even non fans of the famous programme) whilst visiting Melbourne..
Our first stop of the tour was, Erinsbourgh High (not actually called that). Again just the outside is used for filming. We couldn't take many photos, as it is illegal here, to take photos of children, when around schools!
Anyway, the next stop was the icing on the cake. We pulled into Ramsay Street and caught our first view of the houses. They were all there, like on the TV. Harold and Madge's House, Lou Carpenters house, Mrs Mangle (the curtain twitcher) and all the others. Afraid we are not to hot, on latest characters and their living arrangements within the street. So if any of you guys/fans out there, know who lives where nowadays... Answers on an e-mail please. Well, as we neared the end of the close, our van had to skid out of the way to avoid 'Bouncer' the dog and someone shouted 'rack off' to him, as he proceeded to dump all over Paul Robinsons garden!
We were allowed to walk around the close to take MANY pictures and got some cool and not some cool, in front of all the 6 houses. People really live on the close. We were advised that they do get well compensated for the twice daily tours that invade their quiet street! Not to mention when they film there as well. Ramsay Street is a lot smaller that how it's portrayed on TV. They make out it's a long street, but it's merely a cul-de-sac.
The other bonuses to the tour ,were the old classics they played on the minibus's DVD player. We watched Daphne's death (on request by Dan), Todd's death, and Jim Robinsons Heart attack! Oh and Scott and Charlene's wedding (bluurggghh), so least it wasn't such a morbid round-trip!!
All in the entire trip was a bit gay (no offence intended to homosexuals out there), but was great just to see where these legends are filmed. Cuz, come on, we all admit that we made sure we didn't get detention, so that we could make it back in time to watch!! Everybody needs good Neighbours after all!! Enjoy the photos.
Melbourne itself was a really nice place, very cosmopolitan and lots to do
Well Oz was just about coming to an end so we made our way back to Sydney a few days before our scheduled flight originally booked for the 15th, we did however have to make a last minute change as we realised we would be going past our visa by one day!!! Imagine that not being let back in Oz for three years all because we can't count!! Anyhow we won't bore you with Sydney again too much! The main highlight was going to watch England cricket team, play Speed Blitz Blues (New South Wales state team) for a friendly, before the start of the actual ashes game's get underway....This made Dan's day, as he was gutted we couldn't go and see the proper games! It was a great day though, sat in the sun with the must have beers, listening to the crowds go crazy! Dan jumping about like a child on Christmas day!!! mmmmm Lou wanted to go back to Home and Away AGAIN, but we figured that may just be classed as stalking!
Oh well Guys, our last Oz blog and next stop Singapore. We fly out on Tuesday and arrive there around 22:00....sad to leave Oz but looking forward to the 5 months ahead and entering the non Western places! Should be pretty interesting we're sure!
Hope you are all well and mail back soon.
Lots of love take care x x x x
p.s - Less than 6 weeks until Xmas!!!
p.p.s BEFORE DAN FORGETS......He has a public apology to make. In the last travelpod he stated that Lou's mum was in her fifties.......which apparently is un-true! This is what Dan had to say on the matter "I realise that the age bracket that I hastily put Lou's mum into was un true and unfair. I hereby would like to rectify the situation by publicly correcting this..............she is actually in her 60's!!!!!!ha ha"
