Hey all,
So I've arrived at Franz after my 10 hour bus journey which was kept entertained by way of 'the giggles' with another solo female traveller called Emma whom I also stayed in the same hostel in Nelson with. So 10 hours with no books to read or ipod to play..
However we did have afew pit stops along the way which litterally were 2 minute stops.. so much so that a Japanese girl got off the bus, wandered about, took photos of the petrol station (who kows why) and then disappeared off in the direction of the stations toilets never to be seen again! The bus driver got onboard, did a rough head count and left! Myself and Emma tryed to tell him he'd left someone behind but we were on our way and he joked that if anyone was to do that then they could catch the next bus tomorrow (without their lugguage as it'd get to the destination fine!)
So after afew hours of giggling (I know we shouldn't have but it IS funny) we finally settled down and by that stage it was Emma's stop as her journey wasn't as long. So I just spent the next few hours staring out the window at the vistas. I have to say I haven't taken as many photos of this trip as I'd thought as most of what I'm seeing travelling overland is greenery like we'd have back home (only with local trees instead of the ones I'm used to.) But I continue to be fasinated by the green fields, silver ferns and snow capped mountains in the distance..
Tomorrow I head to Franz Josef glacier for a walk around the base (I've decided not to do the vertical hike as I'm running out of money and there were afew people I'd spoken to in hostels who tell me that even the guided hikes are not that good at the minute as there's alot of water running off the top causing huge rivers to cross at the base)
So, that's me tomorrow and then on Friday I'm heading to Wanaka so another early start at 6.30am. Hopefully Wanaka is warmer as I'm quite sure it can't get much colder here! Though I hear that back home there has been snow so winter has indeed started, hurray (I'm kidding.)
