So after almost 7 hours on an Intercity bus I finally made it here to Wellington. I have to say, I've only been here about 2 hours but I love it! I dumped my bags in the hostel and went out on Courtney Place which is the main street here for bars and restaurants. I'd read about acouple of good places to eat which aren't too expensive so I went to Expressoholics which was a really nice place, good food, good atmosphere and nice to people watch. I'm getting somewhat of a pro at eating out alone. But a couple and their 2 kids were sitting next to me and struck up a conversation (perhaps out of pity) but once we got talking they soon realised I was happy enough!
Only here for 2 nights and tomorrow I've got a Palliser Bay and wine tour booked so I'm going to have to cram in alot on my final morning on Sunday before catching the ferry over to Picton.
I wish I had longer here now as it's a really nice spot. Good scenery and lively bars and food places. It was already dark by the time I got here but it's safe enough. I'm on the top floor of this hostel, floor 6, and I have amazing views over the city! Can't beat it, fantastic hostel. Glad that Taupo is behind me as there was nothing to do really except skydive (if the weather's right) and Huka Falls.
Which reminds me, the scenery on the way down in the bus was awe inspiring. Mount Tongariro which was Mount Doom in the Lord of the Rings films was something else. Took 20 minutes going past that National Park and my jaw was hanging down for most of it. Beautiful snow capped mountains and lush green grass and trees in the foreground.
Anyway, it's getting late here and I need a shower before bed. Up at 7am tomorrow for this tour.. oh, by the way, the reason I haven't uploaded pics yet is mainly to do with Travelpod not allowing Mozilla firefox to upload.. that and this hostel doesn't let you insert USB devices which is annoying as I need to charge my ipod!
ps. the lines I refer to are the new ones I've just noticed on my forehead... I'm getting old as they don't go away!
