Admittedly it would be hard to beat the fantastic Ventspils tourist office, but Kuldiga does not even try. The girl at the desk looked annoyed to have been interrupted from her email, although she answered our questions satisfactorily. Kuldiga has the widest waterfall in Europe at 249m, also possibly the lowest at 2m but they don't put that in the brochures.
We were lucky enough to find a hostel where the view from the sofa in our room was an unobstructed view of the falls. We hired bikes and rode along the river and into the forest and the sun even graced us with its presence. In the evening, sitting outside in the still bright daylight at 9pm, beer in hand (obviously reflecting on the difficult lifestyle we lead) we had a perfect view of the flying fish - spring is spawning season and the fish are heading upstream which involves jumping the waterfall.
