Subotica - the adventure begins

In the morning, we caught the bus to the Serbian border - too easy? Yep. We were dropped off amidst fields of sunflowers, the driver miming 'end of the line', no border in sight. Thankfully, it was walking distance and 10 minutes later we were stamped out of Serbia and started the 10minute walk across to the Hungarian border. The fun was just beginning.
We arrived in Subotica, a town in Northern Serbia near the Hungarian border, by bus in the middle of the day. It was a sweaty trek in boiling sunshine to the beautiful town centre of buildings, you guessed it, covered in scaffold. We went to the tourist office to find some accommodation... closed. Hmm. We went to the student dorms and stood in the queue of students, being eyed curiously when we didn't respond to Serbian. With plenty of students as translators though, we soon had a reasonable room sorted for the night, so we spent the afternoon enjoying the architecture and watching weddings line up for their turn in the town hall.
