When I had finally recovered, we set off for Jajce, in Northern Bosnia and Hercegovina. The whole country seems to be blue green rushing rivers curved around jagged limestone mountains covered with brilliant green foliage.
Jajce is one of those postcard photo destinations - a cascading waterfall against the backdrop of old town ascending the hillside and crowned by a citadel.
Nearby are the Pliva lakes, we walked a couple of km in baking sun to where the lakes started, only to find the icy mountain water far too cold to swim in! It is a popular swimming spot though where teenage boys queue up to climb the trees and dive into the  water while the girls pretend not to watch.
