Where I stayed
The town is strung out along the coast, a winding cliff filled with caves set against the backdrop of rolling green hills (filled with, of course, sheep).
We caught a bus up the coast so that we could walk the coastal path back again, only we overshot by a stop, ending up on a black sandy expanse of beach. Lovely spot, small drawback - the river between us and the trail and a 6km diversion to the nearest bridge. Luckily the sun was out so we dried on the trail. The 22km walk followed the cliffs around the coastline, out around the peninsular and up and down many hills. Luckily it is hard to tire of the scenery of green hills with their hedge borders and hidden pebble beaches.
The hardest part of our trip to Fishguard was getting out of town. Literally. Our triple checked bus timetable had evidently changed as our bus didn't show, we wasted all our change on the payphone to call all 3 taxi companies who informed us they didn't work on Sunday mornings and hung up, we couldn't walk 15 miles in the two hours to make our train and the town was almost completely deserted. Thankfully we only had to walk a few kilometers before finding not only cars on the road, but ones that were willing to stop and give us a lift. So we made our train after all.
