Crossing the border into Jordan was much easier and cheaper, but by the time we arrived in Amman, it was pouring with rain and dark. We went to sleep thinking that the weather might improve, but the rain increased overnight, the streets awash with torrents of murky water and a flooded drainage system. Turns out this is the most rain here in 7 years, and the yearly average has been exceeded in one month.

We visited the citadel and theater of Philadelphia, as it was named in Roman times, sheltering from hail in the museum filled with dummies in Bedouin costume. End result - soaked and freezing. All the other tourists we speak to sensibly spent the day in an internet cafe.
