A spa-resort-town since hundreds of years BC, Pamukkale town is surprisingly quiet in the winter. The popular attractions are not so quiet - travertine pools formed by stunning white calcium deposits, filled with clear blue water (and barefoot tourists). Plus the Roman spa town with extensive baths incorporating the mineral springs, and an extensive necropolis of tombs (evidently mineral water does not cure all).

We joined a tour with 2 Korean women - our driver Sefa took a liking to one and sang a traditional Turkish love song (so he said). So the Koreans sing a song about their love for Jesus. They try to make us sing "I come from a land down under" but our attempt at Waltzing Matilda puts them off asking for any more singing. The sites we visited were more secluded - Laodicea, famed for its stadium and church and Aphrodisias, famous for its temple of Aphrodite (think orgies).
