Where I stayed
in a hammock on the beach
Our accommodation is 2 hammocks under the roof of a pavilion, precariously perched on a rocky outcrop between 2 picturesque bays. The scenery is stunning - it would be even better without the rows of people lining the beach roasting themselves. We spend the afternoon snorkeling and trying to avoid other loud Australians.
A storm blows in during the night, whipping empty hammocks into a frenzy and smashing peoples food off the bench onto the floor. Once it quietens down, I get woken by the mice under my hammock, feasting on the food. In the morning we have yet more insect bites, and the weather has turned bad, so we beat a hasty retreat back through the jungle to the bus.
The police are very keen on searching buses here - in the 1 hour bus trip, we are stopped twice and everyone herded off the bus for the cops to search under the seats. They also pat down a few dodgy looking passengers. Luckily Bevan's beard doesn't seem to put him in the dodgy-looking category.
