I think the fair the thing to do is give it away. In reality you must keep some of it, in order to continue passing it on.
Today, I built the same desk three times. I swore so loud that I'm sure another teacher heard me. I thought of Heidi, our YAGM director, who said there will be dark days. This was not one of them. I finished the damned desk didn't I?
I witnessed a seemingly stressed conversation between my administrator and another teacher yesterday. After we walked away, my administrator told me that the other teacher was pregnant. This is exciting! This is worrisome. Mexican law requires expecting women to stop work 40 days before and after the child is born.
I've worn the same pair of pants going on five days. No one told me teachers at my school were expected to wear blue pants everyday! No one told me that they don't have my size pants in this country. I just want to fit in!
That terrible and wonderful moment when you get sucked into a new life that you forget about talking with those who are most awesome.
That terrible moment when you don't want to speak in Spanish around the dinner table because you're that tired.
That terrible moment when you almost start crying because there is a sobbing little girl in front of all her peers. She doesn't have a school book. She's embarrassed. You want to scoop her, take her to buy her a book, and promise her that everything will be ok... That terrible moment when you can't promise anything.
That wonderful moment when you start to open your eyes, and everything else happens.
