Driving in Michi's Camper van was pure joy. No more stinky buses full of annoying people but the peace of choosing your own way at your own time...ahh, freedom.

Our first stop on our South Island Tour was Mount Cook. On the way we were stunned by the emerald green Lake Tekapo and the rising mountains. Yes, there is snow on the Southern Alps even in Summer, and even though the glaciers are melting more and more thanks to Global Warming.

We camped at the base of Mount Cook and hiked up to Mueller Hut the next day. The most strenuous 3.5 hours of my life which proved that "Sport ist Mord" (as we say in Germany = 'sport means death')....but kidding aside, the hike brought me to my physical limits thinking I was going to fall down the mountain side not just once especially since everybody else was really equipped with walking poles, ice picks etc. Even though I suffered and couldn't move properly for the days to come, it was worth it...the views were stunning and it was a real adventure: climbing 1000m in 3 km while passing let's say 5 different vegetation zones from the hot, grassy plains to the windy and cold snowy mountain top.
