After a quick flight from Goa (GoAir is great) we are now in Delhi, the capital. It's unbearably hot and the flies are quick to hover around us....this combined with the heat and pollution make Paharganj (the backpacker corridor) an unpleasant place...much worse than anything we've experienced in NYC or Mexico City.
Delhi does make for a nice treat when it comes to modern conveniences (McDo's Chicken Maharaja..no meat of course) and some shopping. We're also here for the Olympic torch relay which was much anticipated given the high number of Tibetan exiles living in India. The relay area was an absolute ghost town due to the military presence and all the Indians were skittish about the outcome...most thought we were fools for walking around. The relay went off peacefully, enjoyed by few. Earlier, the Tibetans ran a parallel relay in peaceful protest. We went by the finish area where they continued to protest peacefully...a sad story and one we've learned much more about since arriving in India.
