After another 4 hour bus ride we got to Madurai. The biggest town so far with over a Million inhabitants, we found it to be pretty stressful, loud and annoying.
But the Sri Meenakshi Temple which is the highlight of a visit is an absolute must. The Temple is huge and inside the walls it is a labyrinth of chambers, corridors, halls, temples, shrines etc. All just absolutely stunning and mystical.
The Gandhi museum is also pretty interesting showing the blood-soaked Khadi that Gandhi wore when he was shot. But given our not so nice hotel and the beggars everywhere we decided to take our first night train straight to Varkala on the Keralan Coast.
