After many recommendations, we headed to Thanjavur by public bus..another bumpy and dusty ride with the bollywood music blasting above our heads. Exhausted we arrived 6 hours later and found the smallish town quite cute..not many tourists make it here  (expect for some tour-buses who stop for an hour)..therefore the locals are really laid back and nobody bothers you. Our comfy Hotel Gnanam made it even better with all amenities we needed at our fingertip.
So we visited the amazing Brihadeeswarar Temple at sunset which was stunning and mistakenly intruded a Hindu ceremony in the chamber of the Temple which is usually only meant to be for Hindus...we had no idea and the locals didn't might so we got to see the huge Shiva-Linga and the Indian Priest (Brahmnin) do his magic..pretty cool.
In the evening we were happy to order room service and sample the many great dishes from South India....such as sambar, idlly, vadai, currys and dosais.
The next day we visited the Royal Palace which was also interesting and worth a visit.
