Finally in Southeast-Asia: a place where the USD goes much further and backpacking becomes close to a luxury; with 1-hour massages for $10 and full meals for $2 we feel on top of our game again. Even our hotel would probably cost around $100 anywhere else, but here in Bangkok its only $28 and that includes breakfast! (http://www.lamphutreehotel.com/ is highly recommended).
Of course its not only the prices that we love here, but about everything else:
- the smells on the street that can change from fish sauce to garbage back to grilled chicken skewers in less than 5 seconds
- the laid-back, always smiling Thai people
- the best food in the world - curries for lunch, pad thai for dinner, tom yam kung (spicy coconut prawn soup) as a snack and life is good
- Chatuchak/J&J Weekend Market: the biggest, best market ever with everything from puppy-dogs to thai-designer-clothing to art galleries to antique buddhas to $20 Adidas sneakers to designer rip-offs to beautiful handcrafts from the north of Thailand
- Siam Square: the newest most elegant Shopping Malls ever seen
- Taking the Water Taxis along the river and canals
