After all that hiking we wanted civilization back with cafes, ice cream etc...so Wanaka seemed like the perfect place to heal those sore muscles and drink up for New Years Eve. But who would have known that this little picturesque lake town is the preferred New Years Party destination for the South-landers 18 year olds...as soon as we arrived at the camping ground at 3pm the music was blasting and everybody was wasted. But it got better when girl fights unfolded next to our camper van and our neighbors blasted Rage against the Machine from the trunk of their car. An entertaining start into 2008...
