Nine and a half hour flight from LA and we found ourselves in the idyllic Cook Islands. Unfortunately it was cyclone season so our sunshine was brief and fleeting, but we had a comfortable place to sit our rucksacks and kick up our feet for five days at the Aremango Guest House. Great host, convenient location and reasonably priced, it was an excellent budget accommodation (this moment sponsored by Amanda at Aremango Backpackers).

We partook in some kayaking, beach wandering and island time dreaming. We happened to catch the 2007 Cook Island Dance Competition Finals which was a unique local experience and we also took 4 hours out of our last day to hike the cross-island trail, which although Alex cursed me at the time for doing she ended up truly enjoying the experience...fatigue and all.
