Oaxaca (pronounced WA-HA-KA) is just a great place..definitely one of our top destinations thus far; beautiful colonial city full of young artists, great food such as the famous mole (sauce made from chili peppers and lots of other ingredients such as chocolate) and tons to see; from museums to hip bars to the magical Zapotec ruins of Monte Alban. Oaxaca is the place to be if you are looking for an authentic Mexicano city. Unfortunately our perfect stay was disrupted by two sleepless nights in two separate places! The first one was dirty and stinky and the second place so loud due to the echoing courtyard that we thought the snoring neighbor was in fact in our room and the drunk watchmen didn't stop chatting all night. Tired and annoyed we finally found peace at the pricier Hotel Las Mariposas which was just wonderful. Sometimes a little extra money goes a long way...
