Santa Fe was truly a hidden gem in the middle of the Cordillera Central mountain range... only two other backpackers were in town (Emma and Dov) and we had all the cool, laid back locals for ourselves. Also, we came just in time for the annual orchid exhibition which is a big deal out here but was kind of a small affair with only a handfull of visitors, but very nice orchids:
We especially enjoyed our peaceful home, the Hotel Santa Fe where we watched the clouds over the mountains with a cool Balboa in our hands (great Panamanian beer). What a life!
We also had some great adventures with our super guide Walter who didnīt speak any English but who brought us to the beautiful waterfalls of Alto de piedra. The trip up in the truck was an experience with great views (see below).
The highlight were all the amazing butterflies everwhere and of course the dance party that night! The local village pub had a little event with live band so we arrived pretty early and it was like a flashback to the old times where you found yourself in a club at 6am in the morning. Everybody was drunk including the four 10-year old muchachos next to us who were alternating between drinking one beer after the other, sleeping on the table and wanting to shake our hands. What an experience! Santa Fe was an all-around great stop.
