We took the bus in the early morning to Montevideo. It was a very comfortable bus and good road. The taxi we took from the bus terminal to the hotel felt incredibly familiar - no seat belts on the back seat, crazy driver. It remined me of my taxi experiences in Turkey, Greece, Russia, Egypt....

The feeling I had walking on the center of Montevideo was similar to walking on the center of Sao Paulo, but with fewer people. The old center is full of street vendors and ice cream parlors. There are some incredibly beautiful buildings, but not all of them are in good condition. Montevideo is an usual stop for cruises going around South America, so you see a lot of foreign tourists in big groups on the streets.

We took a long bus ride to Pocitos, Punta Carreras, and there I felt I was in Ipanema by the beach. Lots of people jogging, playing soccer or rugby, and looking beautiful and happy. By the way, the women in Uruguay are very beautiful! The man not so much.

A highlight was the walking tour at Teatro Solis, a theater built in the late 1800s. They said the theater was inspired by the Scala Theater in Milan. I think It is much smaller than the Scala, but also very beautiful.

There were lots of Brazilian tourists in Uruguay, as in the south of Argentina.
