let me take pics of them checking in on Eurostar, the only growing industry is security in this
modern world. Lorraine and I drove down to Haslemere and stayed a couple of nights,
5 Aug We visited Bognor Regis where the beach is more like Winstones quarry plus with wind.
we did travel thru some beautiful English villages like Chiddingfold
6 Aug Lorraine & I drove to Andover to see and have lunch with Gladys, Mick Scivier's mum, we had a nice time and she was glad to see us.From here we drove back to London for the night stayed again at Beaver Hotel
7 Aug We went on the tube to meet the Paris travellers at St Pancras Station who were arriving at 11.30am and while there we luckily bumped into Gael and Alan who had just got off the earlier Paris train and were heading off to Victoria to catch a coach down to Bridgewater. When our "Paris Connection" arrived we all caught the tube back to our London Hotel and picked up bags, and car.On the way back Bob told us that he had been "Done over" in Paris had his wallet pickpocketed !!!, he will fill people in on details when back in NZ but all is now sorted. Not a nice experience. We then drove down to Salsibury, checked into our Hotel then went to the Cathedral at 5-30 and it was a good time to go, not many "Tourists" and we struck the EvenSong service so heard the choir and the magnificent organ played.Weather was fine.
8 Aug We left Salisbury at 9-20 am and drove to Stonehenge arr at 9-57 were there were hundreds
of "tourists" all ready there, coaches full of foreigners, we spent an hour walking around the stones
it was very interesting, took lots of pics.We then drove onto Shaftsbury and saw "Goldhill" then onto Milborne Port and had a roast lunch with Yorkshire puddings at the Queens Head which was nice
Then thru Exeter on to Dartmoor saw HM Hotel at Princeton no room for the ladies! We then stopped for the Dartmoor Wild Ponies and took pics. We finally arrived at Bodmin at 6-55 pm to a very nice Hotel B&B. We drove 198 miles, another long day but saw lots of interesting and beautiful things and places.
9 Aug, We all had a great breakfast this morning, in my opinion the best of the trip I had kippers
and black pudding, Di & Bob also kippers. We then set of for Wadebridge, 5 miles away, for us to
do our washing this all done and dried by 12-20 (light rain while washing being done.)we set of for St Ives down the A30 which was a nightmare traffic wise.St Ives also a nightmare, people, cars and ddogs everywhere we had to leave ASAP.No parking for miles. We drove on to Penzance which was no better, people cars and more dogs, never seen so many dogs at the seaside
We did manage to get a cornish pasty, which was a bit substandard. We then drove to Lands End
were the weather was beautiful blue sky and warm for a change.Took some good pics.
10 Aug This morning quite heavy rain- do they have summer here??.We left to drive to Bolventor
and went in the Jamica Inn which is an18th century "smugglers Inn" made famous by Daphne DuMaurier. The weather is very poor ,misty and raining. We then drove on to Clovelly, a 14th century fishing village, which has been owned by one family (one of only 3 since the Norman conquest) where donkeys are used to transport goods up and down the cobbled street, no cars.!!! the weather cleared for an hour so we could walk up and down in good weather. While having a cornish pasty it rained quite heavily, so we pushed onto Tintagel to ruins of King Arthurs Castle so rumour has it!! the weather has cleared now and the sun is out with a bit of blue sky, we have been lucky today weather wise.We all had cream tea, Don thought it was "green tea" so had toffee cake as well!!
Home at 7pm we have done 117 miles today, weather now quite good lots of blue sky, hope it
keeps up for our trip to Bath tomorrow.
