31 July

Left East Ardsley drove down to Stocksbridge to meet Brenda- Don Halliwell's sister, where we
received a warm welcome and we shared a nice home cooked lunch, chicken &pork pie with
"parkin" special that was.Andrew, her son arrived with his wife Ann. Andrew a retired police officer was very interesting to talk to,he kindley guided us back onto the M1 we followed him in his new BMW.We arrived in Cambridge where we stayed the night.

1 Aug  We caught the bus into Cambridge (parking impossible) and had a good look around
the diferent colleges,St Johns, Kings,Trinity etc.Mareen,Di and I went "punting" and the guide was
very knowledgable. Caught the bus back to the car and drove down to Clavering to have lunch
at the Crickerers Arms this is Jamie Olivers parents pub and where he learned to cook. Well
the pork roast meal with crackling was "scrumptious" the flavors in the pork were special.
We the drove down to London arriving around 6pm after a traffic nightmare -thank god for our
"Navlady" Charlotte. Not much time to relax as we were to meet Alan & Gael at 7pm,
they arrived and we walked a couple of blocks to Earls Court road to the Earls Court Tavern
and a fewdrinks and a nice meal and of course told travel stories. On leaving Alan went into
the loo and there were too many mirrors and 2 urinals and yes you are right he peed into a mirror
after only 2 pints but it was John Smiths. We saw a "stretch Limo" 35 feet long(I asked the driver)

2 Aug Happy Birthday Maureen, she is still younger than her sister Di!!! we set of for the city
under grey skies but warm got our "Oyster Travel card" first stop Westminster walked over the bridge and onto the London Eye then walked back over the bridge to Downing St, St James park,
Birdcage Walk,Buck House, The Mall pased Clarence House, Trafalgar Sq then The Haymarket.
We called into NZ House where the front desk man spoke with european accent, in fact it was
difficult to hear an English accent never mind a cockney one, bloody foreigners every where.
We then had a nice lunch in an Italian restarant on the Haymarket, walked up to Piccadilly circus
Oxford St,Regent St Bond St, then caught the tube to Knightsbridge into Harrods.Well there was
lots of our friends spending our oil money I can tell you, caught tube back to Earls court and in the
rush hour the girls were a bit perturbed with the crush onto the tube, home at 7pm then another
quick turnaround out at 7-45 to a Lebanese restaurant for a nice meal home again 10-45 all with
very tired feet.

3 Aug We were all woken this morning with the fire alarm going off at 5-20 some bloody idiot
was smoking in bed,Lorraine was up and down stairs so was Don but Di & I stayed in bed!!
diferent ones I must add quickly, the weather this morning is beautiful clear sky and sunny we are going into town for a hop on hop off bus ride. After a short stop at Harrods we got on an" Original" Bus tour blue line, then on a yellow line which was very enjoyable, we went all over central London inc Tower Bridge & Pudding Lane, our guide Rhys was very knowledgable  and made the trip interesting, coming home a squrril was in our st.This evening we met Alan & Gael at the Grand Marquis in Shaftsbury Ave where we had a meal then all went to the show Jersey Boys which was very good. On the way home we saw a fox scavenging in our street. Home at 11pm.Don,Di,Bob& Maureen go to Paris tommorow,so more news when they are back on Saturday.Watch this space !

Bon Voyage!!!

Your map pins sure are gathering momentum and what a fabulous time you are all having. Such a thrill it would have been to go to the restaurant where Jamie learned to cook. I love his cook books and can't wait to 'play' in our kitchen again!
Ah, the lovely Cotswolds, we are sure you will have a wonderful time in that special part of England. Today we are going to leisurely head for the East Coast and drive the coastal route south. Loving your stories, definitely a book in the making.
With love, Susie and Dave.
p.s. Roger, it was such a pity you didn't you take the camera into the loo at
Earls Court tavern

Great to hear from you again. I'm really impressed with your consistency.
Weather here is terrible at the moment. Wet , cold and miserable. Can't wait
for summer to come.
Gael made it safely over I see. Keep having a great time.
Love Julie.
