Indiscriminate consumption of any and all edible goods found along the way is a definite plus for many of us riders and our culinary experiences seem to be discussed more than our cycling equipment or mileage. The morning always begins with a discussion of where the coffee and pastry stop will be and the local merchants are usually happy to accommodate, even if a bit overwhelmed by a troupe of sweaty people in funny clothes pointing and gesturing w/ a handful of the local currency. And there's always a post-lunch stop for gelato (I won't mention who holds the record for 6 scoops!) Many of the riders also enjoy a cold beer or two at the end of the ride as we either await another delicious, nutritious meal prepared by Bonny et al at campsite or make plans to visit a local dining establishment. The food has been truly wonderful. I'm glad our hotel rooms and campsites have been void of scales and that most of my clothes are made of Lycra.
We arrived in Gyona, Hungary today after an ~75 mile ride - flat, hot and with a headwind/crosswind. The evenings are nice and cool though and I will once again enjoy sleeping in my tent with the rainfly off. Though I don't relish the 545 wake up. We are about 1300 miles into our 2300 mile ride. The weather forecast remains hot, dry and sunny. This Texas girl is loving it.
And tomorrow we ride...into Romania.
