A rest day today but I got in a 10 mile run along the Danube on another beautiful sunny afternoon. As I often do on novel run courses, I got a little lost coming in but heard someone singing and playing "White Freight Liner" around a corner. I followed the source and met a young Dutchman who was tickled that I was from Texas and recognized a Townes Van Zandt song. He also likes Lyle Lovett but had never heard of Willis Alan Ramsey and appreciated my suggestion to check out "the one album".
He directed me to my hotel and enthusiastically honored my request to sing "Loretta" as I dropped a fiver into his open guitar case.

The forecast continues to look promising though the "curator" of the boat museum (first time I've ever met a shirtless curator) reported that the Danube was way over it's banks a few weeks ago after massive amounts of rain (which may explain all the loose gravel on the trails). However the city itself did not sustain any damage. Apparently many of the cities have a system where they put up barricades of aluminum that anchor into pre drilled/tooled holes on the stone river walk. It's said to be very effective and eliminates the need for sandbagging. Those Germans - such forward thinkers!
Otherwise nothing exciting to report. Tomorrow is a short day (only 52k or 31 miles), followed by four 60-70 mile days, through Passau before we arrive in Vienna on Saturday. So 4 nights of camping ahead and the recurrent difficulty of fitting everything I need, including clothes, toiletries, tent, thermarest , sleeping bag and pillow into a single 90L "daily bag". It is a challenge for us all!

And tomorrow we ride....
