Remembering ANZAC in Canberra
Entry 18 of 18 | show all | print this entry |
On the last day of our trip, we attended the dawn service in Capital Hill. That was quite an experience for me. Very moving very solemn...it touched my heart. It wasnt that cold when we started but during the service, with a bit of the wind chill, I am pretty sure it dropped to 2-5 degrees. With just a jumper on, the number of people served as heating devices...I did okay then and managed not to freeze....
The service started with the singing of O valiant hearts, then followed by the wreathlaying....an ANZAC dedication...the Lord's prayer....singing of Abide with me......repeating of the ode...singing of O God, our help in ages past....and then the soft singing of the national anthem....
There was quite a good turnout....believed to be about 20K young and old Australians were there to commemorate...for lest we forget.
