Winning back our airfare in HK! Well, almost...

Even though we didn’t get lucky on the gee gees, we had a brilliant time. The atmosphere was electric: a racecourse in a spectacular setting, full of locals and expats drinking and gambling
. V’s lawyer friends here were stuck at work (hmm..not looking forward to coming back to that!) but she spent a lot of time pointing out “lawyer-types” to A (there were lots). V is now slightly concerned she can be spotted a mile off and so is tempted to not get her hair done before returning to work (while not in the same league as A’s beard, it really does need to be tidied up).
We spent our final day sleeping, binning clothes we just don’t need/ can be bothered washing when we get home and enjoying a final star ferry ride and promenade along the harbour. Hong Kong - what an awesome city, where our sabbatical adventure started and what a fitting place to end it.
So, it’s back to Hong Kong for the final night of our trip and where else to spend it, if not at Happy Valley Racecourse for the legendary Wednesday night races? We were convinced that we would win vast amounts of money to pay for some of this trip. V, having less faith in A’s confidence, suggested starting with smaller bets. Despite A predicting the first win we saw (on which, we hadn’t actually bet anything), we won nothing on the second race. Our luck turned on the third race, when one of our horses, lucky number 11, romped to victory, netting us a cool HK$ 27.50. That’s about £2. So almost the cost of one of A’s beers that night...and a tenth of what the night cost us.
