Took the star ferry across to Wan Chai to check out the area and visit Wooloomooloo roof terrace bar.......again, great views of HK and Happy Valley racecourse (brought back memories of Rio).
Now that we have left HK and are safely in Singapore, which is HOT, we can now publish details of where we stayed in HK.....our lovely little hostel, which really was lovely and clean, was in the Chung King Mansions. Unknown to us when booking, turns out that these mansions have quite a reputation....look it up for yourselves
First impressions of Singapore are good......clean, efficient, stunning at night around the Marina - hardly surprising the F1 looked so good on the TV- and amazing food. We're staying in the Muslim area of Kampong Glam, where the atmosphere and food on an evening is incredible. Last night we tucked in to some Malaysian cuisine of egg, rice balls and veg in peanut sauce (what a dish!), a selection of spicy noodles and fresh lime juice. All for the bargainous price of £5. And today we enjoyed traditional pratha bread served with a delicious curry sauce for less than £1. Who said Singapore had to be expensive?
That said. we did of course enjoy traditional Singapore Slings (followed by some house specials!) at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel...and beer is pretty expensive.....so it's a good thing we can eat so cheaply!! The experience was worth it though and Andrew loved being able to chuck monkey nut shells on the floor.....he's not doing that when we get home.
It's been raining more or less non stop for the last few hours so we've spent some time planning a bit more of our trip.......Andrew "planner" Lamport is loving it and is in his element. Which is good as he had been getting a bit stressed about us not having booked anything beyond Ko Phi Phi!
