Back at street level outside the Amir Timur Museum is a giant ringed road plaza with a large statue of Timur mounted on a horse. This statue has changed over the years from Lenin, Stalin, and now Timur.

The plaza faces some historic buildings. On one side is the original central bank building. There are also some modern conference halls.

To the top of the plaza is Hotel Uzbekistan. This was built in Soviet times and I'm told isnt that nice to stay in.

There are also two clock towers that ring together. I forget the story but someone had promised to build this after the war.

As well there is a long pedestrian boulevard leading from the square and back to where my hotel Tashkent Palace was. I had seen it earlier but decided not to walk down and wait till I came here with my guide.
