Day 50

We began the day with an early breakfast. Then we hit the road again with the plan to drive across Rwanda and into Tanzania.

Rwanda proved to be a pleasant surprise with the country visibly on the up and up. We had heard rumours that their President spends two hours every Sunday picking up litter outside his own house and keeping the country neat and tidy while encouraging others to do the same. This impact is clearly evident and it takes a keen eye to spot a loose piece of rubbish. Kigali must be the cleanest city we've seen so far.

We passed through the border posts at Rusumo Falls with relative ease. We had expected to find an abundance of ATMs and Fuel stations within Tanzania. This was not the case and we were soon short of fuel. We had no option but to pull in to a local village to make a plan. After conversations with six different people we eventually exchange dollars at a heavy hit and paid for some over-priced fuel, filtered through a sock.

We spent the night in the gold mining town of Geita accidently crashing a double wedding that was in progress at the restaurant we went to. We didn’t really mind but there was probably more attention on us than the brides so not sure how happy they were about it.

Maite on

We are planning a trip to Tanzania and one of our stops is in Geita. We were wondering about accomodation, given we are on a tight budget? Could you let us know where you stayed and what possibilities there are?
thank you :-)
