Austria still continues to impress.  I arrived in Salzburg yesterday after a longer than expected train ride from Innsbruck.  Part of the tracks were closed, so we arrived 90 minutes later.  It was a beautiful train ride, so i didn't mind!

The joys of Eurail travel - When you are over the age of 26, you have to buy a first class rail pass.  What happened to discounts for when you get older!?  In my trip so far, I have not taken advantage of the first class cabins because my fellow travelers did not have passes, and it would have been more expensive for their tickets - not to mention that all of the trains I have used require reservations with the pass and the reservation fee would have been higher for myself.  On the way to Salzburg I was in a first class car, and I was thankful!  I shared my car with two "older" couples from the U.S.  I say "older" because they were certainly senior citizens, but were very much conquering a lot of territory on their trip.  They have been to many places on the globe, and it was very inspiring and hopeful that I will be able to do the same.  It was entertaining to listen to them talk to each other about their kids, grandkids - or rather, talk ABOUT their kids and grandkids, makes me wonder what my folks say about me behind my back.

Salzburg is such a nice, clean, city.  The people are friendly.

Yesterday I did some much needed shopping and wandered around the Mirabell Gardens.
Today I walked around the old town, saw a few old cemeteries, went to the fortress, saw where Mozart lived as a child, and took a looooooong nap which was fantastic.  I actually have a king size bed with four pillows, which honestly despite the beautiful city, is topping my list of Laura's best of Salzburg.
