I am in much better spirits now that I have arrived safely in England. The flight was great; takeoff during the sunset and landing in the sunrise. The food was great and I slept most of the time.
I met some people in the airport yesterday that boosted my spirits a lot. There was a bar called Moe's with pretty good potatoe skins. I met a diamond miner from the NWT and an international buisness man who wants to work in Brazil. It was good to practice my french and get out of my mopey mindset. I also talked to my 'elbow partner' on the plane who works with satelite radars and Global Positioning System (GPS) images. He knew a lot about museums and other highlights.
Dave met me at the airport, it is great to see him again! I'm glad he was there because the trains were a little confusing and very crowded. I didn't hear any particularly strong accents but there was a general buzz in the tube station. It's beautiful here and warm. Lots of flowers blooming and there's trees all over town. The houses kind of remind me of Coronation Street; all brick, close together, with terracotta shingles and curtained windows. We had a traditional breakfast of brown beans and scrambled eggs with big coffees. I noticed that you can smoke pretty much anywhere here still. I'm handling the time change well so far. It feels like a regular day has begun, even though I woke up at 1am and it should feel like 8am for me now. It's nearly 2pm, London time. We're going to make a plan this afternoon, figure our what we'd like to see and where we'll go.
