Flew down to Saskatchewan for a week of training - we were expecting fall weather and hoping for a bit of sun to warm us from the arctic chill. No such luck - blizzard and cold the whole week! Now that we're back up in the north, we see that Regina is back up to temps around 20 degrees!
Still though, our week was great. My dad drove 700km from the west and my mom flew in from Ontario to see us and spend some time. We talked pretty much non stop, had great dinners together, and did a bit of shopping to stock up on the kinds of items that are hard to find or very expensive in Yellowknife.
We heard that Regina is famous for their pizza. We tried one on the last night and it was awesome!! Sweet crust, hit of BBQ flavour mixed with tomato sauce, and tons of delicious cheese. We also tried Afghani food for the first time and it was wonderful too! In this family-run restaurant I loved the rice, called something like Qabali which was soft and brown like mushrooms and had raisins and shredded carrots. Highly recommended. Our family shared the platter for four so we had the opportunity to try all kinds of grilled meats and stews. There were pictures on the walls of statues carved into cliffs and also the dwellings that people live or lived in. Recently we watched a program about Petra on TV and it looks really amazing so we'll have to put that on the list and go there someday. I'm looking forward to more food like that!
