Off the Ontario Map today and into the province of Manitoba!  It's been a lot of driving so far, two full days worth just to get out of Ontario!  Great to see so much of the province we're coming from though. It is so often that we don't take to time to really see and appreciate our own 'backyards'

Once we crossed the provincial border, we took a little detour and drove through a lovely provincial park.  We turned north on a route which sounded like it would have lots of amazing watery vistas, the map showed points along the way with names like "Great Falls", "Pine Falls", "Silver Falls", "White Mud Falls" (ooh white mud, like the Blue Lagoon in Iceland? Sounds really cool!!) and "McArthur Falls".  The road was about an hour long and we thought it would be the perfect scenic route. We were sorely disappointed to find the names did not hold true to the environment and these 'Falls' were barely rapids, in fact could be better described as dams. *pout*  Ah well, now we know and it wasn't all for nothing. We met some nice fisherman and gave them a good laugh when they heard we'd come from Ontario in search of their waterfalls!!

We ended up camping out at the height of the 'falls highway' in PowerView... ah, PowerView it all makes sense now...  we'd hope to make it to Grand Beach the following day but it was raining hard which really put a damper on the beach weather.

We had our eyes peeled for Bison, the great animal that waves on the Manitoban flag but no sightings yet.  Senica really wanted to add Lake Winnipeg and Lake Winnipegosis to his collection of waters he's swam in. But, we had taken more than a few hours off the main route already and did you know Winnipegosis is actually really quite far north?  We're going to have to give it a miss this trip, but next time we'll set our sights to Northern Manitoba and we'll check out the Icelandic community of Gimili too!
