Where I stayed

Senica and I drove up a fjord peninsula looking for a place to stay. We saw old grass ruins of the first settlers - "old man ingles'. And we saw craggy peaks that looked like staked up pillars of rock. We drove and drove, expecting to settle ourselves in early but only finding a place for dinner - in late evening. We noticed the whole restaurant 'Syrup' was full of tourists. If this was a hostel, we'd all have been talking to each other, but as it was we just sat at our tables with our own company and chatted about the sights in Iceland. We'd seen these people mostly all day, stopping along the designated areas for photos. (coincidentally, we ran into a couple one table over at the airport on our departure date. Under those circumstances we had a great conversation about impressions of Iceland and other countries). We asked at the restaurant where we could find accommodations and they opened a room for us in the back and let us stay the night for only 4000ISK! That is so crazy cheap - we feel like we won the lottery! So now we have a comfortable room by the ocean in a small fjord town called Hammstangir. Tomorrow is some religious holiday so we are very glad to have a place - we have the place to ourselves now that the restaurant staff has gone home! It is perfectly quiet. We are only 11 days married and have spent hours talking about our lives ahead and the beautiful wedding day that just transpired.
