Our favourite restaurant is a Vegetarian restaurant in the City Centre. We eat there once or twice a week. We will order 6 to 8 dishes of various rices, potatoes, tofu, and vegetables. This includes a Hotpot. Hotpot is very popular in China
We haven't really eaten much meat since we have come over. Most of the teachers have jumped right in and eat anything put before them. All of them have had some stomach issues through the last 3 months. Lois and I have been fortunate so far. No stomach issues at all. The food has been great. The Chinese people really like meat with their meals though, so in many establishments it's pretty difficult to find a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu. And, most of those menu's include a lot of pretty weird and crazy stuff. It's amazing what the Chinese will eat. You name it, they eat it. Think of any part of any animals body, inside and out, and they eat it. Last weekend one of our student's dad brought home a complete cow head. They ate the whole thing up throughout the weekend. The kid loved it. No matter what street you walk down in China there are street vendors every few feet selling some kind of food, and every third or fourth shop will be some sort of eating establishment. Grocery stores are interesting also because all of them will have numerous fish tanks, lobster tanks, eel tanks, snake tanks, and bullfrog tanks. Beside each tank is a small net. You reach in and grab what you want. Everything is alive when you net it. Pretty crazy.
Great restaurants here though and we're loving it!!
