Apparently we couldn't have picked a better weekend to come to vina del mar and valparaiso, two beach towns about two hours from Santiago. It was the last weekend of summer for all the university students and everyone was out to make the most of it.

Dani and Coni were our guides for the weekend, being frequent visitors of this chilean paradise they set up our accommodation, showed us the sights, and took us to the biggest parties in town. Can't thank them enough for all the help, Greg and I were basically just following the entire time.

Valparaiso is a port town of steep hills filled with equally steep staircases. Just like many South American cities houses can be found in every color of the rainbow, except here there is the addition of some of the coolest street art I have ever seen. Exit through the gift shop... Live. We spent the afternoons wandering though the labyrinth of staircases and houses, stopping to eat at some hole in the wall restaurants Greg and I would have never found on our own.

At night I felt like it was spring break, and in a way it was. There were huge clubs on the water and piers, and one night we ended up tailgating in a parking lot before a big music festival that was in town. Lots of dancing and lots of fun. The stray dogs here were much more clean and I had a lot of trouble not petting them on the walk home from the bars. By the time we got to the apartment lobby there was at least one or two following me that wanted to come in also. I really miss trek...

The apartment we were staying in (rented from coni's cousin) was really nice. It had a 24th story pool where we spent the mornings recovering and relaxing with views of the sea and city. Throughout the whole weekend I couldn't help but think that this was exactly the way I wanted to spend my time before 1-2 months roughing it in the extreme weather of Patagonia.
