I have just arrived in Helsinki Airport and the internet is very slooo...ow. I hope it's not a taste of how life is in Thailand. We're all a bit freaking out. It's like one of my companions (aka Tine) said: 'I'm going to die if I have to wait this long just to get the frontpage of facebook.'
It was a two and a half during flight on a small business plane and we got a sandwich with honey chicken salade. Hmm. When the plane landed, it was snowing. There was a lot of snow as you can see from the pictures. We had waited for 3 hours and then boarded the plane to Bangkok!
Diner on the plane was a mushroom risotto, which was nice but breakfast wasn't that good. Scrambled eggs with cheddar and a white sausage that tasted like bacon. Strange. An hour before landing, I was getting nervous and having second thoughts about this whole internship. Why did I want to be this great adventurer going to places which are unfamiliar. For an hour, I had hated myself.
Let's just say I have mixed feelings: I'm scared and excited at the same time.
After 17 hours, I finally arrived at Bangkok. I changed my euros into baht, Thailand's currency, and it's easy to convert because it's the same as the previous Belgian currency: 1 euro = 40 baht. The second task on the to-do-list was getting a SIM-card and my new Thai phone number is: 66800721476! I can call, text and go on the internet at any time. I was so happy ... for a little while ... because then we were up for a six hour bus trip to Prasat, Surin, where my host family lives. I slept most of the time except when we stopped to have lunch, which was really delicious and cosy.
About 4 o'clock the driver needed to buy some fuel. When he stopped at a gaz station, they apparently had run out of fuel so we had to head back the whole trip to the main road again. Odd.
Two hours later I saw my host family! It was a pleasant meeting with lots of laughter and I had and still have a big smile on my face! I will tell you all about them tomorrow.
ราตรีสวัสดิ์ /Rātrī s̄wạs̄di̒/ or GOOD NIGHT you all.
