Chemainus - Finding a Way to be Noticed

On our way to Victoria, we drove back to Port Alberni and then south on Highway 1, the Trans Canada Highway, to Chemainus. It is located between Ladysmith and Duncan both of which are beautiful towns in their own right.

Almost all of us are in the pursuit, one way or another, of finding a way to be noticed.

Someone in Chemainus (pop. 3,900) reached for that brass ring 25 years ago and they have not let go since. The brass ring in this case was to decorate the town with murals depicting the history of this beautiful town located on the Strait of Georgia.

In the ensuing years the number of murals kept expanding and has now reached a stage where they are world famous.

Chemainus is a perfect example of a decision taken which led to a huge difference in the destiny of this town.

As a result, the number of tour buses parked here are a testimony to the success which these murals have brought to Chemainus.
