Port Hardy to Campbell River to Parksville
Glenn and Dianna's departure date from Seattle on August 20 put us on a very tight schedule
Therefore, our goal today was to drive from Port Hardy to Ucluelet on the Pacific Rim, a distance of 450 km.
Other than a stop in Campbell River to see the scenic pier, we drove straight through to Cathedral Grove in McMillan Provincial Park, just east of Port Alberni.
This meant passing up the lovely communities of downtown Campbell River, Courtney, Fanny Bay and Qualicum Beach.
This was however a drive that Barbara and I did last year while we lived in Victoria and which is chronicled in:
Victoria: Blog No. 12 - Coast Cariboo Route Campbell River
(sorry, I tried to establish a hyperlink, but it does not work)
(50 photos)
The blog is written to describe the drive up the coast from south to north.
Speaking of Campbell River, one of the most interesting drives and blogs on Vancouver Island was to Thasis, the birthplace of British Columbia. This blog was also done last year.
From Campbell River, drive 87 km west along Highway 38 through Stathcona Provincial Park to Gold River
Victoria: Blog No.13 - Thasis - Birthplace of British Columbia (67 photos)
------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------
From Parksville, we turned west along Highway 4 towards the Pacific Rim National Park.
Our first stop was the incomparable Cathedral Grove. (see next blog)
