We rang our niece Helena and arranged to meet up with her and her husband Jeff. They are living in Washington D.C and arranged to come down and join us for a few days - I think Jeff just wanted to join Matt on his quest to find the best deli sandwich! And where better to do it than NYC!
We met up in the lobby and wandered out into central Manhattan. We took a long route round to Times Square, which was actually only a block from our hotel, and after a few photos in the daylight we made our way to the first deli on our tour - start as you mean to go on at Stage Deli
Jeff and Helena were amazed at the size of some of the sandwiches - and Jeff is from the U.S so you think he'd be used to it! The cakes were also three times the size, but we decided to try the sandwiches first and see how we got on!
Matt went for the 'Rudi Giuliani' which is corned beef, pastrami, cheese and Russian dressing. He seemed to like it as it didn't last too long, and gave the overall sandwich a very respectable 9/10 - not bad for a contender! We also tried some of their cheesecake (when in New York and all that) which was big and quite hefty, so lucky we only had one piece between us. I feel we will need some serious walking tomorrow to recover from this meal!
Now it was dark we took a walk back through Times Square for more photos. Matt and I were starting to feel really tired from our flight so we walked back to the hotel, via the theatre where Jeff and Helena were going to see 'Spiderman - the stage show'! They said it was different, but they quite enjoyed it!
