Upon waking, it was apparent that something just wasn't right. Was I hungover? My instincts suggested not, as I'd shown uncharacterstic restraint the night before. No, I had definitely been taken ill. My muscles ached, my joints were creaky and worst of all, my stomach was making wholly incorrect noises.
As such, have spent the day largely recuperating. Alternating between my guesthouse's bed, courtyard and the fantastic Cafe de Jack, I've been gathering strength with a cocktail of vitamins, large meals and lots of water. I'd like to take this opportunity to strongly recommend Cafe de Jack. The food is great, the coffee better, the staff are full of jokes, the toilets have doors (thank christ, given todays intestinal conditions), the tunes range from good to exceptional, their sofas are comfy and their computers are fast. If you're ever in Dali, come here.
Also spent a fair bit of time helping my Chinese roomate with her English practise. It's kinda weird, she writes a journal in almost fluent English, but seems to only be able to speak a spattering (at best) and then asks me what certain words she has written mean! Anyway, she's pretty nice (and a bundle of energy, fluttering about the place cleaning up and singing) and even had the decency to ask if I was feeling ok as my malaise became apparent to the world through a combination of guttaral moans and my pained man flu face.
I'm pleased to report I'm feeling a lot better, and have plans to actually do something tomorrow.

Better!
Glad you are feeling better - your trip is very interesting and hope you can keep writing,
Janet
Oh good gosh
That doesn't sound pleasant. I hope you make a speedy recovery.
The difference between her levels of written and spoken English is to do with passive/active learning. The more active the discipline, the harder (for most people). Speaking is the most active discipline. For those who learn the language in an academic environment - this is often a problem. Reading comprehension is normally the easiest.....
Ciao,
Christina
