We had to get up early this morning and I mad it to breakfast! Haha we had some bread that is really yummy and nutella, butter, jelly, and cheese to put on it
Today we got a pretty good tour of the institute, its super freaking awesome. Our building date back to 1250!!! They have done a really great job of restoring it too... and most of the furniture is from IKEA... so it looks super nice. There are kitchens everywhere, so we can cook there too. And the studios... ohhh the beautiful studios! :) So our fashion studio is so modern, fresh, clean, and professional looking... I love love love it. I only saw 2 sergers and 2 sewing machines when we walked through though... I hope they plan to put more in there because there are 7 of us in the Fashion & Costume courses. Anyways tomorrow we get to meet our other professors and such so it shall be very cool.
For lunch I went with a bunch of people to a little restaurant/diner a few meters down from the institute. I really liked it a lot and had broccoli with this cheese sauce on it and a side of krokety, which is pretty much like a lightly fried ball of mashed potatoes (that is my new favorite comfort food, I'm hooked)
After lunch we talked about he Czech Republic and Anael took us on a tour around Old and New Town. Can I just say that it was -4 degrees F today!!!... Thankfully they said that today was the coldest day in Prague, so that makes me feel a little better. I even got pretty adjusted to the extreme cold weather... it was a little crazy. Gosh there is soooo much snow everywhere here. Especially on the sidewalks... super dangerous, some spots are like major death traps. No bueno.
For dinner we decided to try this pizza place we had previously seen. Well we ended up going to a place on a different corner and realized after looking at the menu that it definitely was not a pizza joint. It's okay though, it was more of an average Czech eatery.. pretty low-key and laid-back. I got these fried mushrooms stuffed with this weird "Niva" cheese and a side of those kroketys again. Of course a Pilsner too. Pilsner is pretty much served at every single bar... and sometimes it's the only beer served there. Apparently a certain beer company (like Pilsner) will provide mugs, cups, coasters, napkins, and all that jazz to the restaurants/bars if they agree to sell only their beer..
Waking up early to go to orientation and some exhibition visits.. that shall be exciting.
What I've learned so far:
-Don't over tip, it's rude.
-Don't pay with small coins when at a restaurant.
-Always use a coaster with your beer.
-Have your drink order ready when you sit down.
-When going to a restaurant you may have to share a table with other people. Say there is a 4 person table and there are 2 people there, they/you can ask to sit with them (it's actually very polite) but that doesn't mean you have to include them in each others conversations. At the start of the meal you may say Bon Appetit! or Dobrou chut'! (Czech).
-The waiters at restaurants will never hurry you out of there, it would be extremely rude of them.. they give your space and your time to enjoy yourselves.
.... I'll think of more things later and as I learn them I'll keep it posted!
