All I can say is WOW, once again, this place is absolutely beautiful. The pictures do this place some real justice. You have to take a ferry from Naples or Sorrento but I couldn't figure out how to get to Sorrento so I took one from Naples. Frustrated that my rail pass didn't cover the ferry ride I paid and rode the 45 minutes across the bay to the little Island that's so popular as an upscale American Vacation Place. The island is actually composed of 2 small towns,Capri and Anacapri. The latter being less heard of and the higher in elevation of the 2, it's actually where the only hostel is located. I got there around 8:30 or so last night and checked in, thankful they had a bed available. Turns out there was plenty of room. The only other guy in my room (8 beds) was an architect from the Netherlands. So we had a lot to talk about, first time I've really got to speak to someone in my field from another country. So it was interesting. We ended up spending most of the next day together exploring the island. Found out there was a Villa here the Upe (professor at Tech) had showed us numerous times. Saw that best I could. Saw a few of the attractions and by that time had to work my way down to get a ferry back across the bay. It was a good day, natural arches, cool architecture, interesting cities, nature trails, and lots of ocean air. But as it turns out everyone in the world wanted to leave the island at the same time. So I took awhile to leave, ended up walking down because it was quicker than waiting in line for bus after bus that was full.
Finally made it down, across the bay, on the train, after several were cancelled, and on my way to Roma.
It's been interesting too, the names of the cities are different. You would think that names of cities wouldn't change from language to language because it's the name of a location. But they do. Rome = Roma Naples = Napali 6 more days. More thumbnails ...
