Venice

Nothing like being asleep and waking in a completely different city. Woke up in Venice, at 5:30 or so in the afternoon, got off the train, stored my pack and embarked on the city of canals. Well I checked for trains to another city first. So that left me 4 hrs roughly to explore Venice. Not much for a city but it's enough on the sampler platter of Italy. Venice is a beautiful city. Rode the water taxi around to St. Mark's square, took a bunch of pictures there, wanted to slap the idiot who came up with the idea of selling pigeon food. (there were 3 vendors there doing this) You feed a pigeon and a pigeon has to take care of business, luckily I never got bombed like some in our group did earlier in the trip. But geez, who's idea was this? Anyway, spent time in the square looking at the palace and the other buildings around, wanted to buy a couple paintings but as usual they were rather over priced. Then took my time working my way back to the train station. I actually liked this city. Maybe it's the water, or the character of an old city that seemed to keep itself farily clean. I don't know, but it was a neat place to go, would certainly put it on the recommended list. Tidbit of info, I didn't realize there was a huge issue of St. Mark's Square flooding nearly every year. For those of us archinerds that's where Dogee's Place is, and I'm sure I misspelled that.
But onto the train and off to the next destination.
