Welcome to Paris!!!!
I'm about sick of this computer stuff. I had this thing written (over a page) and I lost it. Errrrrrrrrrr maybe that's the new sign of getting older, instead of losing your mind you lose interaction with computers. We came in this morning on the night train from Madrid, Spain. That was our first experience of overnight slow train rides. Each car had 4 - 5 cabins and each cabin slept 4. So 2 seats on each side of the VERY small cabin then the beds folded out of the wall. That was the best part when they finally let the beds down and we could stretch out. But sleep wise, we didn't get much good sleep. The rocking train I could deal with but hanging off both ends of a bed that is not really that comfy and a pillow that was weird, just didn't sleep well. But...arriving in Paris it didn't really matter how much sleep we got. We were no longer in Spain. After a month in Spain and Portugal we were ready for anything.
So First Experience totting our luggage through the subway was interesting. 23 people with a large suitcase in a strange large city trying to move quickly was rather entertaining from outside. But... we made it and arrived at our lodging accommodations, in the rain I might add, all in one piece. We were lucky enough to have the Cite Universite to accommodate us for a week in their dorms. The university is designed toward international studies. Each country has it's own building on the campus and the main hall was the City International Building. Not a bad place at all, and the opportunity to have our own rooms again was a nice break. We got out and got a tour of Paris for a couple hours from professor B. I can't spell her name without looking. Buelinex or something like that. Not much of the touristy stuff but mostly a brief of the city layout. Notre dame since it was Sunday and it was free. Amazing to see but the cathedral scene is getting kinda numb having seen so many. The stained glass is beautiful inside and was worth the visit inside.
Dinner was a highlight as well. We ate on this street full of restaurants. Menu posted outside for you to see options and prices, as well as a staff member who's only job is to sell the place to you. Every place has this, people trying to get you to come in and eat, pretty amazing. We decided to eat at this Greek - French place that was pretty nice. All the bread and water we wanted and descent food, with LIVE MUSIC, man how I miss more of that from home. Ate a skewer of meat... chicken, veal, sausage, and pork. Was a little dry but it was a nice meal for 18 euro, had a tomato and mozzarella salad before had that was amazing.
Speaking of meals things are a little different here. A "menu" is a meal here. Usually you get an entrée a plat and a dessert or lunch menu's usually offer either a entrée and plat or plat and dessert. Entrée is a starter and a plat is your main course. Well lots more to come and lots to see in the few days remaining. Glad to be in Paris. More thumbnails ...
