I've determined that the people in NZ must be fairly political, since I've been witness to 5-6 protests/demonstrations in only two days.
I've never seen anything like it before. Yesterday was the marijuana smoke out, then today there was an anti-racial discrimination protest, a random street party/parade for an eastern religion (not sure exactly what), a fire fighter challenge (ok, not political, but still neat) and a large street march for freedom of speech (I guess a new gov't is trying to pass a bill that they're not keen on).
The thing that I've found the most interesting about all of this is the age & diversity of the people involved. In Canada it's typically young people who demonstrate, but here there are just as many (if not more) white haired grandparents marching as there are young students. And many parents seem to bring their little ones as well. Really neat to see.
Anyway, without really planning it these pictures are all of random, 'only in Auckland' type things that blew me away today. Wonder if I'll see any more beofre the day is out...It's about 4:15 here and I'm not sure what I'll do with the rest of the evening. Likely fairly early to bed again...I'm definately being a homebody here, but it's not really my cup of tea to head out to the bar on my own. They have a TV & movie lounge in the hostel, so maybe I'll hit that up tonight. We'll see!
Miss you all!
This city is continuing to blow my mind by the hour. I woke up fairly early this morning, feeling fairly well rested and eager to start the day. Headed to a market that I just loved, and I spent the morning sitting around there in the sun.
